Pokémon card size: dimensions, thickness and the right protection
A Pokémon card measures 63 × 88 mm, or 2.5 × 3.5 inches. This standard size is the same for French, English and Japanese cards, and it sets the size of sleeves, toploaders, one-touch holders and binder pockets. Here are all the dimensions you need to choose the right protection.
- A Pokémon card measures 63 × 88 mm (2.5 × 3.5 inches).
- It is about 0.3 mm thick.
- Japanese cards are exactly the same size.
- Standard sleeve: about 66 × 91 mm. Toploader: 3 × 4 inches.
The exact dimensions of a Pokémon card
| Measurement | Value |
|---|---|
| Width | 63 mm (2.5 inches, i.e. 63.5 mm) |
| Height | 88 mm (3.5 inches, i.e. 88.9 mm) |
| Thickness | about 0.3 mm |
| Corners | rounded |
Depending on the source, you will see 63 × 88 mm or 63.5 × 88.9 mm: it is the same card, given in rounded millimetres or converted from inches. Holo, Reverse, Full Art and textured cards are the same size; only the thickness can vary very slightly depending on the finish.
French, English and Japanese cards: same size?
Yes. Japanese Pokémon cards are the same size as French and English cards: they use the same sleeves, toploaders and binders.
Watch out, however, for the jumbo or oversize cards included in some boxes: they are much larger and need dedicated protection.
Compared with other card games
- Magic: The Gathering, Lorcana, One Piece, Dragon Ball Super: same size as Pokémon, same protection.
- Yu-Gi-Oh!: smaller cards, about 59 × 86 mm. They need Japanese-size sleeves; a Pokémon sleeve is too loose for them.
Which protection size should you choose?
| Protection | Common size | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Standard sleeve | about 66 × 91 mm | Storage and play |
| "Perfect fit" sleeve | about 64 × 89 mm | Inner sleeve for double sleeving |
| Toploader | 3 × 4 inches (about 76 × 101 mm), 35 pt | Rigid storage for a sleeved card |
| Magnetic one-touch | 35 pt for a standard card | Displaying a valuable card |
| Binder pocket | standard card size, often 9 per page | Storing a collection |
"pt" is the card thickness the holder accepts: 35 pt matches a standard card. The EVORETRO 66 × 91 mm matte sleeves and the pack of 10 one-touch 35 pt holders are made for this size. All the tips for using them well are in our guide to protecting your Pokémon cards.
What about a graded card?
Once graded, the card is sealed in a rigid case (a "slab") much larger than the card, whose size depends on the grading company. It no longer goes in a sleeve: you protect the slab itself, for example with an acrylic case compatible with PSA slabs. To prepare a card before sending it, read our guide to grading.
A card that has lost its shape
A card can keep its dimensions but lose its flatness: humidity makes it curl. It then fits badly in a toploader or one-touch. Our guide to flattening a warped card explains how to flatten it safely.
